Katie Melua
Katie Melua (multi-award winning recording artist with a significant presence and sales history in the UK and across mainland Europe, signed to a major label – BMG) had been planning to tour Germany this summer 2021 as follows:
Fri/Jul-23 Germany, Halle, Peissnitzinsel
Sat/Jul-24 Germany, Oranienburg, Schloß Oranienburg
Fri/Aug-13, Germany, Bonn, Kunstrasen
Sat/Aug-14, Germany, Chemnitz, Theaterplatz
Sun/Aug-15, Germany, Gorlitz, Landskron Kulturbrauerei
Tue/Aug-17, Germany, Rostock, Internationale Gartenschau
It is likely that all of these shows will now be postponed into 2022, representing a large loss of income for 2021.
Our biggest issue on this tour, whether for this year or next, is around the uncertainty on cabotage restrictions during our August run. Whereas previously we would source a bus and truck from the UK to go into Germany, tour, and return, we are now having to look at sourcing a bus and truck from London into Germany, to then hand over to a local bus and trucking company for the tour. We would then either bring the German vehicles back to the UK to then return to Germany, or hand-over to a UK fleet on the last day of the tour to then bring everyone back home.
We have already turned down several European radio and TV appearances for Katie this year due to uncertainty around travel restrictions. Naturally this has an impact on our streaming numbers and physical record sale figures.
Government funding will allow us to offset the increase in costs caused by various new restrictions and guidelines.
